Diagnosis and dismantling
Every restoration begins with a precise photographic diagnosis: nature of the wood, condition of preparatory layers, lifts, losses, state of the glass. The piece is carefully dismantled when necessary.

Antique mirror restoration
An antique mirror is a fragile assembly of wood, plaster, gilding and silvered glass. Our workshop takes care of the entire piece — structural consolidation, restoration of sculpted ornaments, gilding retouches and conservation of the original mercury glass.

Consolidation and ornament restoration
Missing ornaments (shells, florets, beads, rocailles) are recreated in plaster or resin, sculpted by hand and then integrated with the original gilding. No mechanisation: everything is done with traditional tools.

Gilding retouches & glass conservation
Losses are retouched with gold leaf and patinated as close as possible to the original. The original mercury glass is preserved whenever possible — its mottled appearance is part of the mirror's value.

Should the mercury glass be replaced?
No, except in rare cases of broken glass. The mottled look of antique glass is sought after and contributes to the mirror's value.

Between 6 weeks and 3 months depending on damage, size and ornament complexity.
