Susanne Linzer, gilder & art restorer

Trained in the traditional techniques of gilding and restoration, Susanne Linzer works with gold leaf, polychromy and the conservation of antique gilt-wood. She works for private collectors as well as antique dealers, decorators and institutions.

Each restoration begins with a careful diagnosis: nature of the substrate, state of the preparatory layers, originality of the gilding, structural issues. The restoration is then carried out with respect for the original materials and techniques — animal glue, gesso, Armenian bole, true gold leaf.

The workshop favours a measured approach: retouch rather than redo, conserve rather than replace. The goal: extend the life of the piece without betraying its history.
