Gilt-wood & polychromy

Religious statues, tabernacles, consoles, panelling, interior architectural elements: every gilt-wood or polychromed object benefits from a conservative approach. Our goal: prolong the life of the piece without erasing its history.

01

Historic polychromy

Old polychromy — often fragile, sometimes covered by successive over-paintings — is consolidated, re-adhered and gently cleaned. Losses are retouched with watercolour or traditional pigments, in a fully reversible approach.

02

Substrate consolidation

Worm-eaten wood, splits, loose joints: we work on the substrate with compatible materials (animal-skin glue, conservation resins, matching wood).

03

Gilding retouches

Gold leaf losses are retouched using the original technique (oil or water), then patinated to blend into the old gilding.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you restore church furniture?

Yes, we regularly work on tabernacles, statues and retables in partnership with parishes and municipalities.

Can a modern over-paint be removed from old polychromy?

Yes, with care. Preliminary solubility tests determine the least aggressive method for the original layer.
